About Us


Deshbandhu College (Evening) now named as Ramanujan College was established in 1958 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Government of India, in the memory of Late. Lala Deshbandhu Gupta, a patriot who had dedicated his life to the national freedom struggle. Originally run by the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Education as a men’s college, it has been maintained by the University of Delhi since 1972. In 1994 it opened its doors to women students too.

Deshbandhu College (Evening), now known as Ramanujan College has become a separate entity and will have New Campus in 7 acres of land in Kalkaji, New Delhi. The New College will be a Delhi University maintained college fully funded by UGC. The college has come into existence in July 2010 after taking over the assets, liabilities and employees of erstwhile Deshbandhu College (Evening). 

Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan (December 22, 1887-April 26, 1920) was an Indian Mathematician and autodidact who, with almost no formal training in pure mathematics, made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series
