How to become a Mechanical Engineer

FOR DIPLOMA IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Step 1: Clear your 10thstandard exams with qualifying grades. Join a Diploma college or Polytechnic to pursue a career.

STEP 2: Appear for entrance exams conducted by government bodies or technical education bodies. An example of this entrance exam is the JET (Joint Entrance Test) conducted by the state of Punjab. Subjects to be covered in this exam are Maths, Physics, Chemistry, English and Aptitude

STEP 3: After completing your 3 years diploma, you can look for a job as a junior engineer or get admission in the second year for a bachelor’s degree in engineering.

FOR BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

STEP 1: Appear in entrance tests conducted by government and private bodies. The exam will be objective type questions for subjects like Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Aptitude.

STEP 2: As per the result of the examination, you will be admitted into respective colleges depending upon your rank. The course duration is four years. During the course of study you will cover subjects like energy studies, environmental science, elements of electrical engineering, communication, critical thinking, linear algebra, mechanics of solid, kinematics, thermodynamics, material technology, machine design, and economics for engineers etc.

STEP 3: After clearing all your papers, you will be able to professionally practice as an engineer with various firms and bodies.

Career Prospects

Income

To start with your income may vary between Rs.25, 000 to Rs.40, 000 per month. But, it can reach as high as Rs.1 lakh per month with experience and performance. It is a highly paid job with good pay roll all around the world.
